It's likely also that IDF responders on the day were thinking (or were told) that it didn't really matter how many of "their own" they killed since these deaths would all be attributed to Hamas etc. In fact from this perspective, the more, the better.
Did they bother to kill the Hamas kidnappers at the same time or only aimed for the Israelis? If they also aim d for the kidnappers there should have been a lot of dead Palestinians next to the Israelis.
Did any of the reporters who broke this story see it for themselves? Or did they hear it from someone who heard it from someone else?
